Quick takes- July 2018

The Hypnotist's Love Story. 3 1/2 stars. Very mixed bag. The main storyline is not that interesting, but weirdly, the stalker is the most relatable character in the book. Could have used a good edit.

There There. 4 stars. I loved the structure of this book. You got to see everyone's point of view, and you felt it building up to a strong climax. Very impressive debut.

Social Creature. 2 stars. The Talented Mr Ripley, but if Ripley was dumb and unoriginal and would have been caught...

The week in review

I know it's been more than a week, but I am on summer time. Now how do we get summer time to be forever time? Working on that.

The Intermission was kind of a letdown for me. I am always up for some good domestic drama, but this was so similar to The Arrangement, a book I absolutely loved, and I couldn't keep from comparing them. I didn't really care whether Jonathan and Cass stayed together or not. You didn't see them together all that much, and I didn't care for either of them...

The week in review

I'm on summer time, so kind of slacking on weekly recaps. But we're not slacking on reading or going to the library.

I absolutely loved The Great Believers. I've loved everything she's written but this was on a new level for me. I've read lots of fiction about the AIDS crisis before, but this one really hit home how tragic it was.
